Hair Growth

As with anything in life, if we first understand the natural behavior of something, we can fully grasp the essence of assisting nature in maintaining great health, strength and longevity.

Understanding Hair growth, and nature’s construction of our types and textures, will assist in our growing and enjoying natural beautiful hair.

Hair types or textures are divided into four categories.

Type One, refers to the straight, no curl pattern seen naturally in the majority of European and Asian hair. Due to its straight surface, Type One textures reflect light easily, radiating a brilliant shine.

The lack of curls or kinks within this texture allows the natural oil to work from the scalp to the tips without much interference, making Type One hair textures the oiliest of them all.

This texture is mimicked often by getting perms, or straight ironing of the hair with a more defined curl pattern. Sadly, with too much heat being used to accomplish this straight look, the hair follicles are often damaged. This results in the hair never being able to retain its natural state.

Type Two is broken down into three categories (type 2a, type 2b, and type 2c), with the curl pattern tightening with each progression. It’s a wavy texture, directly between straight and curly hair.

As you go down the spectrum, the less light will be reflected from the surface of some textures. The looser the hair’s curl pattern, the more it is prone to becoming frizzy. The wavy textures type 2a, 2b, and 2c reflects more light than curly hair, but isn’t as radiant as type 1.

This look was often mimicked with finger waves, and some conks. Depending on the length of time a perm stayed in the hair, determined whether the wavy, curly, or straight look was accomplished.

Type Three textures are also broken down into three subcategories (3a, 3b, and 3c). This texture has a very pronounced S shape curly texture, with that “S” getting noticeably tighter with each subsequent category.

These textures are not as moist as the Type One and Two textures, but not as dry as type four. As with Type two, this texture’s curls tighten with each subsequent category, with 3a being the loosest of the three.

S-Curls and Jheri curls was made popular with people with coily kinky hair trying to achieve a curlier look to their hair.

Type Four textures are the curly, coily, kinky hair grades that are seen mostly in people of African descent. Type Four is broken down into the three subcategories (4a, 4b, 4c), again gradually tightening the curl pattern until the coily look resembles more of a zig zag than a curve.

This texture is the driest of all the textures therefore making it more prone to breakage. The tight coil pattern makes the reflection of light very difficult. It absorbs light, serving as a natural protector from the sun’s ultra violet rays.

Alopecia Treatments For Hair

Depending on the severity of the alopecia, treatments may vary. Alopecia occurs when the hair follicles become inflamed, this causes the hair to fall out. If the individual decides against an alopecia treatment, the hair will still grow back after 6 – 12 months.

My son of 8 has alopecia, he had 4 patches of smooth bald skin, they were large in size. When the hair first started to fall out you could see tiny black dots, these were the actual follicles, they did not come out attached to the hair. These follicles came out after about 4 weeks, after 6 months the hair started to grow back. The new hair was a lighter shade than it previously was. As of yet this has not occurred again, but I am worried about when it does.

Many people would think that alopecia treatments are medications and lotions but from dealing with my sons alopecia I strongly recommend counseling. My son started to become withdrawn and he would have periods of crying and being naughty especially at school. We were advised to try counseling and after the first 2 sessions we noticed a good change.

It is unknown why this condition can just happen after long periods of no hair loss, so if you have never experienced it before you will worry about it. If you have had bouts of hair loss before then you can cope with it a bit better.

This autoimmune disease is thought to run in the family, so it is extremely likely that a relative has this condition.

Before a conclusive diagnosis has been reached, your doctor will ask you about any past medical problems you may have had. Because you suffer from this condition you are likely to develop other autoimmune diseases, if your doctor feels that this could be an issue he or she will refer your for tests.

Alopecia treatments will vary on the severity of the hair loss. For relatively mild hair loss you may not wish to have treatment.

Alopecia treatments include;

Wigs, unlike the past this product is less noticeable and can be made from real hair.

Finasteride, this medication is only for men. This treatment has side effects.

Saw palmetto, this encourages hair growth it is a herbal supplement available at any health food store.

Minoxidil, no prescription is necessary for this treatment.

Steroid injections, in cases where the hair does not grow back, injections will be given, these are injected in to the bald patches, hair growth takes between 4 – 6 weeks.

Alopecia treatments can be effective for some people, finding a suitable treatment will take time and to begin with you may not find any that seem to work. Persist with looking and you will find a treatment that suits you. If you are worried or if you feel down, know that you are not alone, many people suffer with this problem and the feelings you have regarding your hair loss are normal. If you are getting a bit down consider a support group or counselor. It is only your hair that has changed not you as a person.

Hair Loss Prevention Remedies for Men

Men’s hair loss, without a doubt can be disturbing. Most men feel this is akin to losing their own youthful nature and some of their personal vitality. For some men, removing all of their hair is preferable to losing some of it. The bottom line is that you have options to explore when it comes to dealing with loss of hair. Handling such condition is a personal process but it can be easier when you use one of these strategies to help you through.

Fairly recent discoveries have shown that stress can affect us in many ways, so the idea that hair loss can be caused by stress isn’t new. Often this will occur when somebody goes through a period of stress due to an event, like losing a family member or losing one’s job. Very often, people in such situations will see their hair rapidly turn gray, and in some cases hair will start falling out. When a traumatic event has occurred you’ll maybe need counseling of some sort, but your hair loss might be reversible if you can lower your stress levels in the long run. Everyday stress can be a factor for most people when it comes to them losing hair, however this tends to not be the only factor.

Numerous chemicals on the head could be reinforcing loss of hair. Although a woman often buys expensive hair paraphernalia, men don’t even know half the time what they place on their heads each day. A damaging effect on your hair could be if you are utilizing products that are filled with strong chemicals, such as hair mousse, shampoos or conditioners or hair colors that diminish the gray. When you go to a salon they could also be using those types of goods for your hair care. Making use of nothing other than a mild conditioner and cleanser is one thought process. If your hair is reacting badly to a certain chemical, switching to something more natural could help stop your hair loss.

Androgenic alopecia, commonly referred to as male pattern baldness is the condition with which most men from their youth to middle age who are losing hair suffer from. This condition is one that can be inherited from both sides of the family tree. The end result is production of a hormone, DHT, which leads to hair loss. Natural remedies have proven quite useful in addressing this particular problem. One of these is a plant called Saw Palmetto, which is also good for men to take for another reason, it helps keep the prostate healthy. This supplement is easy to find in health food stores and offers no known side effects. It’s a natural DHT inhibitor, so it can be effective at reversing hair loss.

Oddly enough, simple things like brushing your hair or massaging your hair can work to stimulate the growth of new hair. Try using lavender essential oils when doing this as they are known to enhance the overall effect. As little as three minutes a day can make a world of difference in your hair growth efforts. You should brush your hair frequently but avoid being harsh. Some new growth is often the result of this as well as healthier hair in general but it will not cure male pattern baldness by any means.

Take the time to understand potential side effects of the medications you’re taking. There are very few drugs on the market today that don’t have some sort of side effect to keep in mind. Most medicine packaging offers some sort of warning or information about possible side effects.

You should try some of these hair loss remedies that we’ve looked at as they might just help you. Consulting your doctor may be advisable in some cases as the cause of hair loss can differ greatly. However in most cases there are a few ways of dealing with hair loss, whether it’s reversing it or simply making it easier to deal with.

Just remember that you should never simply start taking a medication without first talking to your doctor. Medication isn’t public enemy number one when it comes to hair loss but it can definitely be a contributing factor. All treatments do not work the same for all men because the reasons for hair loss are numerous. A man who is younger and is going bald, for instance, in all likelihood won’t be aided with nutritional supplements because he probably inherited this. In such cases, a hair transplant might be the only solution. For others, however, a less drastic treatment might stimulate new hair growth.

Five Tips for Developing Long-Lasting Hair

What goes in to a great head of hair? There are a few ingredients, of course. Genetics play a role. Long-term care plays a role. Attention certainly plays a role. But there are ways you can become overly invested in your hair and doing so much to make it look good that you…end up making it look bad.

No one wants to admit it’s them, of course. But if you want a system of natural hair care without going to the hair salons every day, you could probably use a few pointers. Here are five ways you can maintain healthy and attractive natural care – and ditch those high-priced weekly hair salon visits.

1. Keep your hair clean. There’s no better way of keeping the need for an expensive hair salon at bay than keeping your own hair clean and fresh on a regular basis. This doesn’t mean that you need to become obsessive-compulsive about the state of your hair at every moment, but you should take the time to develop a daily habit that means giving your hair some attention. Just include it with the rest of your morning cleaning routine and you’ll be off to the races in no time.

2. Don’t accept every product the hair salon recommends. Sure, the hair salon has some good products to recommend. But not all of them will actually be right in terms of their chemistry with your hair. If you’re looking for a good hair product, you should be thinking about what makes your hair appear natural and not fake-looking. Even what looks good can be perceived as negative if it also looks fake. Always look for the way to find natural hair care that works.

3. Find natural options to replace your artificial products with. Would you rather clean your hair with a natural soap or with a chemical? Most of us would prefer the natural hair care because we instinctively know it’s better for us – and for our hair. Hair salons won’t always recommend these options but this tip alone will save you plenty of money and keep your hair healthy.

4. Keep your hair trim and ordered. You don’t have to keep your hair short, but keeping it ordered and making sure that it’s cut regularly is a great way to let the natural hair grow, well, naturally – and to continue to give your hair salon some business despite your attempts to move to a more “natural” hair style. It’s exactly what you’ll want to do to keep your appearance professional at work, as well.

5. Find new salons for better, natural hair. Sometimes you’ll just want to change salons and they can give you all the tips you need on maintaining healthy and good-looking natural hair. Yes, it can be that easy. Of course, some salons will always try to upsell you their specific products, but you can ignore those and find a place that’s genuinely interested in helping you better understand your hair.
